Egypt Day 3

Karnak Temple

Luxor, Karnak Temple

19/12/2010

Tonight we are in Luxor. This morning after breakfast, we flew to Luxor which was an hours flight from Cairo. We were met at Luxor airport by our own personal tour guide and took us to our hotel (which was very fancy 5 star). I was quite tierd by then since we had a late night before and had to get up early to get to the airport. Once we checked in and got shown to our rooms we went to have lunch outside on by the pool which over looked the Nile, it was stunning! This hotel had  gym, spa, games room, pool, 4 restaurants, 2 bars, 3 cafes, 1 lounge over looking the Nile. Flat screen TVs in each room, heaven! I can’t explain the rest but check it out for yourself Sonesta St George Hotel, Luxor, Egypt.

So after lunch our guide picked us up and we went touring to see the Karnak and Luxor temples in the afternoon because the next day we were going to see other sites and we wouldn’t have enough time. The Karnak temple is so big and the time we got to the Kuxor temple it was late after and the sun was setting (it gets dark early in December because it is their winter, but it wasn’t cold) our guide had a reason why he took us there last. At night they light up the Luxor temple it was so beautiful!:) and also kind of creepy in the dark. Been inside a temple that was built so long ago is weird. There is also a mosque that was built over the Temple in one corner becasue they didn’t know the temple was there until after they built the mosque! They can’t take the mosque down because of the religious reason so the mosque and the temple are staying side by side still. Our guide was so knowledgeable, sometimes it was kind of scary, he knew so much about every temple and everything that went on during all those centuries ago or as they called it then Dynasties as the Egyptians called it back then. It was so interesting. I owe my thanks to Omar (our tour guide) for inspiring me to become a tour guide after I graduate.

After a long day we went back to our hotel and had supper in one of the many restaurants and then went to bed. We had a full day of touring in the morning had to have a early start.
